Is Hugh Jackman Done Playing Wolverine? Actor Thinks He Might Be Done Before 'X-Men: Apocalypse'

Coming off of Thursday's news dropped by "X-Men: Days of Future Past" director Bryan Singer on his Twitter that "X-Men: Apocalypse" would be heading to theaters in 2016. News then broke that "X-Men: Days of Future Past" writer Simon Kinberg is attached to the studio thanks to a recently signed three-year deal that will look to create a Marvel Cinematic Universe-style X-Men universe. However will all of the stars be returning?

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Hugh Jackman, who plays the X-Men's most popular character Wolverine, admitted that he might be reaching the end of his tenure as the clawed undying mutant.

"I don't know whether or not I will do this next movie," the actor said in an interview to promote "The Wolverine" Blu-ray/dvd. "I am really proud of this movie and I am excited to develop something with [The Wolverine director] Jim Mangold from the beginning because that is a great ride. That's exciting, to see what we come up with but I have a very high expectation of what it would need to be [for me to star in it] and if it doesn't reach those, I won't be doing it."

The film is still in the early stages of development so it's likely that very little casting decisions have been made. It's unclear how quickly Fox will want to move on the project but it would be smart to include Wolverine.

"No there is not [a script in place]," Jackman said. "Jim Mangold and I were literally on the phone last night talking about ideas but there is no script and no writer yet so it's a way off."

Jackman, 45, might be looking at spending the next five years playing the character between "X-Men: Apocolypse," Jeff Wadlow's "X-Force" and a possible Mangold led third film based entirely on Wolverine.

Jackman has expressed his joy and love for the character in the past so it's not clear if he is actually having second thoughts or just mentally preparing for possibility that the studio will move in another direction away from Logan. However, with the comics very centered on Wolverine as the key X-Men center, the ball is in Fox's court.
