Apple fans never find it too early to begin preparing for whatever the company will be pushing out next, in this case, the iPhone 6. Thanks to new leaked information from the company's production line, Foxconn, a new rumor has surfaced suggesting that the iPhone 6 might come in two different size variations.
According to information coming out of China's Weibo platform, reported by GSMArena, several Foxconn insiders have revealed that production of the new iPhone 6 will be split between two model and one with a 4.7-inch display screen and one with a 5.7-inch display screen. Apple has reportedly been considering an iPhone with a larger display screen for quite some time as it faces competition from the likes of Samsung, which has seen success with larger-screen phones with the Galaxy Note line.
Apple has been reluctant to provide users with anything bigger than a smartphone or smaller than a tablet, despite consumers getting on board with the emerging "phablet" trend toward the end of 2013. Splitting the production into two different phone variants will be a way for the company to test whether or not Apple fans want a larger display screen while not forcing it down their throats by making it the new iPhone 6 standard. Splitting the production to two distinct sizes will allow people the choice.
In addition to the screen-size, reports indicate that the new smartphones from Apple will come with at least one form of biometric scanning. Apple set the tone on the iPhone 5S with the TouchID fingerprint scanner and new reports indicate that the company is looking into facial and eye recognition. Whether or not that technology will be used for security or simply for navigating the device without touching it remains to be seen. If Apple keeps up on its current Q3 release cycle, the new iPhone reveal is an entire eight to nine months away, so there's time to learn more.
As BGR notes, none of these rumors can be confirmed at this time, so take all of this information with a grain of salt. However, this idea does mesh with some reports that have been leaking from Apple over the past few months.
