Former first lady Melania Trump, who has steered clear of Donald Trump's campaign rallies, was approached by several people to speak at the Republican National Convention but declined their offers, according to CNN.

Melania Trump did make a rare appearance at the Milwaukee convention on Thursday night as her husband accepted the Republican presidential nomination during a more than 90 minute speech.

It was the first time she was seen in public since the former president escaped an assassination attempt during a campaign rally Saturday in Butler, Pa.

She entered the convention hall to Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, wearing a deep red dress, and sat next to Sen. J.D. Vance, Trump's running mate.

Her husband remarked on her presence in his address.

"On this journey, I am deeply honored to be joined by my amazing wife, Melania." Trump said to cheers.

"Melania, thank you very much. You also did something really beautiful, a letter to America, calling for national unity," he added.

She joined the former president and other members of his family, including Ivanka Trump, on stage after the speech.

Their son, Barron, was not seen on stage.

During his speech when he was recognizing his family Trump said, "Everybody loves Barron."
