Why is Ted Mosby telling the story of how he met his future wife? Fans of "How I Met Your Mother" have a little less than two weeks before the answer is revealed to them but in the meantime, different theories continue to pop up on the Internet.
The latest - and saddest - theory is that the Mother is dead/or dying. There has been speculation that Ted sat his children down to tell them the story because something heartbreaking is going to happen. While there have been hints that the ending is going to be a tear-jerker, Josh Radnor (Ted) seems to think otherwise.
"One of the things that kept me going when I got knocked around and heartbroken for nine years was knowing the whole thing was rigged to give Ted a romantic victory in the end," Radnor told TV Guide.
So if the actor thinks his character will have some type of victory in the series finale, does that mean producers won't kill off the Mother?
Executive producer Craig Thomas wouldn't reveal much about the finale but did say that it "picks up right after Barney and Robin's wedding and becomes this time machine that takes us into the future. It tells the story of the 17 years between May 2013 and 2030, complete with many ups and downs."
Details and spoilers about the finale have remained under wraps but TV Guide was able to get the scoop on some things fans can look forward to. For instance, there will be a brief appearance from "a fun, random" guest from the past; there might be a robot in a tuxedo; there will be a scene from Farhampton train station; the moment Ted and The Mother first meet will be worked into the finale; and her name will be revealed.
"The very end of the episode - the last two minutes of it - is exactly what we'd planned out years ago," Thomas said. "We even shot a part of the last sequence back in 2006 with Ted's kids, before they became the adults they are now."
Thomas' comments sound a whole lot more cheerful than the rumors going around claiming that the Mother dies in the series finale. He previously told TV Line that "by the series' end, we will learn that there is a specific reason why Adult Ted chose the time he did to tell the kids about how he met you-know-you."
Since there has been so much speculation, HNGN came up with our own list of possible reasons as to why Ted is telling the story. Check out our suggestions and add your own in the comments!
