'Star Wars Episode 7' Cast Update: Female Role Of Jedi Knight Ben Kenobi's Rumored Descendent Still In The Works?

The "Star Wars" Episode 7 production may have announced their primary cast members, but there is an important role left to fill.

StarWars.com announced on their official website newcomers John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson and Max von Sydow would be joining the production along with franchise alums Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker.

"We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again," Director J.J. Abrams said in a statement. "We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."

However, fans noticed there were only two females, Fisher and Ridley, in the principal casting announcement. According to The Hollywood Reporter, there is one "substantial role" for a female lead left to cast, which could mean unknown British actress Maisie Richardson-Sellers still has a shot at joining the production.

"One of the roles yet to be filled is that of a young black or mixed-race woman who may be a descendent of Jedi Knight Ben Kenobi," according to an earlier report from THR. "In the film, which takes place 30 years after the events of 1983's Star Wars: Episode III: Return of the Jedi, the character would cross paths with the children of Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia."

Richardson-Sellers fits the physical description of the rumored character, but she was not found in the list of actors announced on Tuesday. Another actress allegedly up for the role of Jedi Knight Ben Kenobi's descendent was Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o.

Mashable Entertainment Editor Josh Lincoln Dickey also tweeted there is more casting news to come and what was announced were the "main group" that will be featured in the film. However, the "Star Wars" production has yet to confirm any additional casting news. "Star Wars Episode 7" will be released on December 18, 2015.
