It's no secret that mobile devices are becoming more and more essential to the way people live their lives. As people incorporate the device into their everyday routine they need to rely on their mobile security to protect their sensitive information. While a password provides some protection, it won't be enough to stop the most determined hackers. As a result, Apple is working on fingerprint recognition software for the next iPhone.
According to several reports from developers who are participating in the iOS 7 beta process discovered evidence in some of the code that suggest future iPhones will have biometric scanners that read fingerprints. A user could register his or her unique prints with the device and then simply place a thumb on the home button to unlock it. Analysts believe this will add an additional layer of security when making online payments via a mobile device as well.
Some variation of fingerprint scanning has been rumored to be featured on the next iPhones and iPads for months but it wasn't a reality until an Apple developer found a file called "BiometricKitUI" containing numerous references to "fingerprint," according to reports from 9to5Mac.
CNN notes that many of these tech blogs trade in feverish rumors about Apple products that later prove unfounded. There is no word yet, although it is doubtful, that the company plans to role out this new feature with the iPhone 5S, rumored to be released to the public September 18. It is more likely that such an innovation like this will come with the iPhone 6, although the release date for that device is still very much a mystery to consumers.
While larger screens have been experimented with by the company, it is likely the only upgrades to Apple's flagship smartphone, the iPhone 5S, will be a faster processor, a better battery life and an improved camera with LED flash.
