iPhone 5S Rumors: New Device From Apple Expected in Gold But What About Bronze?

With the iPhone 5S reported to be just around the corner with a rumored September 10 unveiling date, many in the rumor mill have started to take ideas of a gold colored iPhone more seriously as leaked photos and sources close to the matter are spilling the beans about a third color option for the iPhone, the only new color since it allowed the phone to come in white as well as black.

To further lend credence to these rumors, a few months back, a photo was leaked from Weibo.com that showed components for a gold iPhone (pictured above), but no other context. Now, on the verge of the iPhone 5S launch, suddenly rumors about just such a device are picking up steam. While this leaked image is completely unofficial and hasn't been recognized by Apple in any way, it does paint a strange picture.

Those who see the photo will also notice a third color option for the iPhone's trimmings. Along with the standard silver that comes on black and white iPhones and the new gold-plated hardware, is a third copper, or bronze depending on your color vernacular, set of components for the iPhone. If rumors of the gold-plated iPhone turned out to be true months after the photo's release, it stands to reason that a bronze iPhone might be in the works as well.

It's worth noting again that the rumors of a even a gold-colored iPhone 5S are purely speculative rumor at this point, let alone an unheard of bronze color. However, it would make sense for Apple to look into other color options. It will likely be debuting the low-cost iPhone C along with the iPhone 5S in September. This plastic-backed device is expected to come in a variety of colors including red, yellow, green, white and blue. This phone will reportedly overtake the iPhone 5, 4S and 4 in terms of Apple's presence in the low-end smartphone market. If it will be showcasing colors as it is, what better way to show off the 5S' high-end qualities than by offering it in gold and bronze? In addition, new color options might distract from the relatively unimpressive list of new features coming to the phone.
