X-Men: Days of Future Past News: McKellen and Stewart Open Up About Syncing Characters and 'Apocalypse' (WATCH)

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" will be taking two generations of actors and put them in the same role once again. The difference between this and "X-Men: First Class" is simply the fact that they'll be bringing both generations to the screen at the same time. Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart recently opened up about what it was like to share the iconic roles of Magneto and Charles Xavier with younger actors in Bryan Singer's upcoming super-hero film.

James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender will be playing the two rival mutant leaders originally portrayed in the original X-Men trilogy by Stewart and McKellen respectively.

The Wall Street Journal asked McKellen if the elder actors tried to sync their performances with their younger counter-parts and he replied very candidly saying, "No. It's up to them to sync with us. We came first."

***Spoiler Alert*** McKellen says his Magneto doesn't cross paths with his younger self. Apparently Fassbender will be sticking with "his own Magneto" and no discussion was given as to how they would ensure that the man he turns into is reflected by the man he is in the past.

"I think he made it clear he wanted to be his own Magneto, and that suits the nature of the story and his part in it," said McKellen."

On the other end of the spectrum, while Magneto doesn't meet up with his past self, Charles Xavier does.

"James and I come not just face-to-face, but nose-to-nose almost," Steward said. "When we shot that scene, it was James' first day of work on the movie, and it was my last day. So I was saying goodbye to X-Men and he was saying hello."

As for the elder duo's presence in the recently announced "X-Men: Apocalypse" set for a 2016 release, so far they have not been approached for involvement in the new movie.

"I know nothing about it," said Steward. "Has anybody called you?" he asked his co-star and friend. "Are you keeping something from me?"

"No, I know nothing about it," McKellen said. "Which probably means we're not in it."
