Cory Monteith Death: Emmy Awards Will Feature Tribute To Late 'Glee' Actor

Emmy Awards execs have confirmed this year's broadcast will feature a tribute to late "Glee" actor Cory Monteith, who was found dead of a drug overdose in his Canada hotel room July 13.

According to Deadline, executive producer Ken Ehrlich said they plan to do "something that reflects an homage," to Monteith, but "what the extent of that is, or how we're going to approach it... well it's too early to tell."

While Ehrlich does wish to honor the life of the talented actor, he admits the timing makes it tough.

"If Cory passed away in March, we'd have had four months to look at this with a little more perspective," he said. "The reason we're getting all of this discussion now is because he passed away two weeks ago, but we're going to deal with it."

Ehrlich also confirmed a musical performance separate from the show's typical "In Memorium" segment is being considered.

"Glee" is nominated for three Emmy Awards this year, but the honor has been bitter sweet in the wake of Montieth's sudden death.

Co-stars Jane Lynch, Dianna Agron and Naya Rivera have all previously released statements regarding the news, and more continue to share their thoughts on the tragic loss.

This week cast member Kevin Mchale broke his silence in an Instagram post, "So thankful that I and so many of us got to experience Cory's overwhelming kindness, humor and talent. There will not be a day that goes by that I won't miss him. Thank you all for your incredible support and patience."

Monteith's girlfriend and fellow "Glee" actor Lea Michele also posted her first public reaction on Twitter this week. "Thank you all for helping me through this time with your enormous love & support," she wrote alongside a sweet picture of the two. "Cory will forever be in my heart."

The Emmy Awards are set to air Sept. 22 on CBS.
