Phuc Dat Bich, the 23-year-old Vietnamese-Australian who has had his Facebook account shut down multiple times because of his unusual name, has thanked his supporters after he posted a photo of his passport verifying his real name.
Bich posted on his Facebook page: "I'd like to mention that I am very grateful to those who have been supportive of certain names that populate in different cultures. ... We live in a diverse and multicultural society and the fact that there are people out there who are supportive and encouraging really makes me happy."
Bich added that he did not expect that his photo of his passport showing his real name would elicit a big reaction and that he "never ranted nor wept" about it. "But I am glad and honored to be able to make people happy by simply making them laugh at something that appears outrageous and ridiculous," he said.
Bich became talked about on social media over the weekend regarding his complaint that Facebook keeps shutting down his account because his name is considered phony and deceptive.
His rant was originally posted back in January, but it has since garnered hundreds of likes. Thousands of users left comments, with some recommending him to change his name. Others, however, were more reassuring.
While some may find his name odd and amusing, the actual pronunciation of his name in Vietnamese, a tonal language, is "Phoo Da Bi," the BBC News reported.
