Drake Bell Charged With DUI Following December Arrest, May Face A Year In Jail

Drake Bell could be spending 2016 behind bars. The 29-year-old singer and former Nickelodeon star has been charged with one count of driving under the influence following his arrest in December, People reported.

Bell, who is best known for "Drake & Josh" which ran from 2004 through 2007, was arrested on Dec. 21 after being pulled over for reckless driving. As previously reported by HNGN, Bell started swerving and speeding after he abruptly stopped at a red light. Glendale, Calif., police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot said the arresting officer smelled alcohol coming from Bell's car during the stop. Bell then failed a field sobriety test.

He was taken into custody but released later on a $20,000 bail.

The charge reportedly carries a maximum sentence of one year in county jail. However, Bell's refusal to take a chemical test at the time of his arrest could possibly add to his punishment. His arraignment is scheduled for March.

It is Bell's second DUI offense within the last 10 years. He was previously convicted of a DUI in 2009 in San Diego. In the meantime, Bell plans to begin touring on next month and will make stops in Monterrey, Mexico City and Guadalajara, according to his website.
