Actress Anna Paquin was set to reprise her role in the upcoming, action-packed X-Men: Days of Future Past. Unfortunately, because of some last minute editing, Paquin's character, Rogue, has been cut from the film.
Rogue will no longer be appearing in the big X-Men sequel, despite her appearance in the film's trailer and her presence at the film's San Diego Comic-Con panel. Entertainment Weekly reports that Rogue was a part of a big rescue scene featuring her, Iceman, Magneto and Professor X. That sequence has since been cut from the movie.
Director Bryan Singer explains that sometimes these things happen in the filming of a big-budget movie saying, "Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous. It's a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it. But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go. Unfortunately, it was the one and only sequence Anna Paquin was in, the Rogue character was in. Even though she's in the materials and part of the process of making the film, she won't appear in it."
Singer went on to clarify that Paquin's removal from the film had nothing to do with her or her performance saying the 'brilliant actress" did a "fantastic job.
He also discussed Paquin's reaction to the news that Rogue had been cut from X-Men: Days of Future Past.
"She completely understood," he said. "It's very disappointing, but she's very professional and she knows that stuff happens, particularly with material you shoot early on in production. Films evolve."
